What Are The Three Types Of Shower Valves?

The three shower-valve categories buyers most often encounter are pressure-balancing valves, thermostatic valves, and diverter or transfer valves. They do different jobs: pressure-balancing and thermostatic valves help manage the shower's water conditions, while diverter valves direct water between outlets. Understanding these functions is useful when selecting a commercial grade Shower Faucet supplier for a multi-component shower system.

Pressure-Balancing Shower Valves

A pressure-balancing valve responds to changes between the hot and cold supply pressures.

For example, if another fixture suddenly reduces cold-water pressure, the valve helps compensate for the pressure imbalance instead of allowing the shower temperature to change as sharply.

These valves are common in residential bathrooms because they provide straightforward single-control operation and practical protection against sudden supply-pressure changes.

Actual performance still depends on valve design, plumbing conditions, and local installation requirements.

Thermostatic Shower Valves

A thermostatic valve is designed to maintain a selected water temperature by reacting to changes in the incoming hot and cold water.

Many thermostatic shower systems separate temperature control from flow control. This can provide a more refined user experience, particularly in hotel, villa, and premium residential bathrooms.

The internal structure is more complex than a simple mixer, so cartridge quality, water conditions, installation accuracy, and maintenance access become important considerations.

For commercial applications, buyers should also confirm the intended operating pressure and applicable local standards.

Diverter and Transfer Valves

A diverter valve controls where the water goes rather than primarily determining its temperature.

Modern shower systems can contain several outlets:

  • Rain shower head
  • Handheld shower
  • Body sprays
  • Tub spout

The diverter allows the user to select between these functions.

Some systems combine mixing and diverting functions in one control assembly, while others use separate controls.

This distinction needs to be clarified when the shower system is specified.

A Complete Shower May Use More Than One Valve Function

The phrase “three types of shower valves” should not be interpreted as meaning that every shower contains only one of the three.

A premium system might combine thermostatic temperature control with a separate multi-way diverter. A simpler installation may use a pressure-balancing mixer and one shower outlet.

This is why the number of outlets and desired user controls should be determined before choosing the valve.

Commercial Supply Requires More Than Selecting a Valve Name

When working with a commercial grade shower faucet supplier, valve selection should be coordinated with the cartridge, shower head, water pressure, connection standard, concealed installation depth, finish, and service requirements.

Our manufacturing process covers component machining, polishing, surface treatment, assembly, and inspection. This helps us control not only appearance but also the interfaces between the shower system components.

Buyers can review our Shower Faucet Set and Exposed Shower System ranges according to the project installation method.
