Why Is My Shower Head Leaking?

A leaking shower head can happen for several reasons. Sometimes the water drips from the spray face after use because remaining water is draining out. In other cases, the shower head continues dripping because the valve, cartridge, washer, hose, or thread connection is not sealing correctly.

The first step is to identify where the water is coming from. A leak from the spray holes is different from a leak at the wall connection, hose joint, diverter, or mixer body.

Dripping After the Shower Is Turned Off

A few drops after turning off the shower may be normal. Water remains inside the shower head and hose, then drains out slowly through the spray holes.

This should stop after a short time. If the dripping continues for many minutes or never stops, the problem is probably not just trapped water.

Continuous dripping often points to a valve or cartridge that is not closing fully.

Leak at the Connection Thread

If water leaks from the connection between the shower head and arm, the issue may be a loose joint, worn washer, damaged thread, or missing sealing tape.

Remove the shower head carefully, inspect the washer, clean the thread, and reconnect it straight. If the connection uses thread tape, apply it correctly without using too much. Excess tape can prevent the fitting from tightening properly.

The connection should tighten smoothly. Forcing it can crack a plastic connector or damage the thread.

Leak From a Handheld Shower Hose

A handheld shower may leak at the hose ends, around the handle, or near the holder. These leaks often come from worn washers or loose fittings.

Check both ends of the hose. Replace flat, cracked, or missing washers. Tighten by hand first and use tools only lightly with cloth protection.

Our handheld shower head and faucet products include handheld shower configurations for bathroom and bathtub applications, where hose quality and connector fit are important for daily use.

Valve or Cartridge Problems

If water continues to come out of the shower head even when the mixer is fully closed, the cartridge or valve may be worn. This is common after long use, hard water exposure, or debris inside the water line.

A cartridge controls water flow and temperature. When its sealing surfaces wear or become blocked by debris, water can pass through even when the handle appears closed.

Replacing a cartridge requires identifying the correct model. For concealed or thermostatic systems, professional service is often safer.

Diverter Leaks

Some shower systems switch between top shower, handheld shower, and bathtub spout. If water leaks from one outlet while another is selected, the diverter may not be sealing properly.

Our exposed shower system products can include two-function and three-function water control, such as top shower, handheld shower, and bathtub spout options. In this type of system, the diverter structure should be selected and tested carefully.

A weak diverter can affect user experience even when the shower head itself is fine.

Water Pressure and Installation

Excessive water pressure may make small sealing problems more obvious. A shower head installed at an angle or connected with mismatched fittings may also leak.

If a new shower head leaks immediately after installation, inspect the thread, washer, adapter, and mounting angle first. Do not assume the product body is defective before checking the connection.

When to Replace the Shower Head

Replacement may be needed when the body is cracked, threads are damaged, nozzles are heavily clogged, or internal parts are worn. If the shower head is still in good condition, a washer or cartridge replacement may solve the problem.

A good inspection saves cost and reduces unnecessary product replacement.

Factory Perspective

We manufacture shower faucets, exposed shower systems, bathroom faucets, kitchen faucets, and related sanitary products. For shower projects, buyers can discuss faucet body material, handheld showerhead material, top shower style, finish, diverter function, packaging, and customized requirements.

Leak prevention depends on material, machining accuracy, washer quality, cartridge selection, and installation compatibility.

Simple Answer

A shower head leaks because of trapped water, loose thread connections, worn washers, hose problems, cartridge failure, diverter issues, or incorrect installation.

Find the leak location first, then check the washer, thread, hose, valve, and diverter in order.
